Like the surrounding cities, the Acworth area was originally inhabited by Cherokee Indians, until the Indians were expelled in the 1800s. Acworth was named by a railroad engineer who came from Acworth, New Hampshire. 

Today, Acworth covers nearly 10 square miles of land and provides a home for over 22,000 people.
