The district of Buckhead began as a little settlement with a tavern and general store, founded by Henry Irby in 1838. Residents attempted to change the name to the more attractive “Atlanta Heights” in the 1890s, but that name didn’t stick, and by the 1920s, “Buckhead” was back.
